Sudan Art Archive Launch

February 20, 2025

The Sudan Art Archive is a digital initiative dedicated to preserving Sudanese artistic heritage from 1975 to 2025, with its first phase focusing on documenting visual arts (painting, photography, and sculpture) from 1975-1990. This project aims to create an accessible and structured archive for researchers, artists, and the public who are interested in Sudanese artistic heritage. The event will consist of a public talk introducing the project’s vision, scope, and progress, aiming to engage the audience in this mission and cumulate community support and input. It also aims to introduce a public display of the research and data collection methodology, inviting inputs and collaboration into the project’s different segments.

The project presents an open source accessible to the audience to reach Sudanese artists and their work, acting as a directory as well. The event also discusses the importance of perseverance in times of conflict and the power of collective work.

A project of The Muse multi studios, produced within the framework of the “Reclaiming Commons: A Project for Building Cultural Cooperation in the Arab Region” grant, supported by Culture Resource, A.M. Qattan Foundation, Ettijahat – Independent Culture, Aflamuna, and L’Art Rue.
