A solo exhibition by Alsadg Mahmoud

In his work, Alsadg Mahmoud uses the tree as a source of life and a symbol of protest, as well as portraying it as a being on its own that has a character, a life, and a separate identity. He also believes that the daily life scenery could get redundant if we don’t try to look at it with fresh eyes or a different perspective. Alsadig, through his paintings, took the time to reinterpret the way he views daily life and its relation to our views, moods, and visions.
Highly influenced by the song “Strange Fruit” – written and composed by Abel Meeropol and recorded by Billie Holiday in 1939 – Alsadg interprets the song into his work as originally it protests the lynching of Black Americans with lyrics that compare the victims to the fruit of trees. Similarly, Alsadig sees texts that have paved the way for the collection “Strange Fruit”,
Painter and sculptor Alsadg Mahmoud was born in the city of Khartoum North in 1983. He was appointed as a teaching assistant at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, University of Sudan, after graduating in 2006.
His artistic experience attempts to create a mixture of contradictions behind the question of contemporary modernity. If behind all the questions, the question of significance and value remains, trying to approach it, and the motive arises behind his aesthetic research, where experimentation becomes a cognitive act in the first base and an aesthetic act that aims to return to the whole / the original in the depths of man, living communication with things, existence and the universe shaping him and his actions, led by his belief in man and his ability to communicate and harmonise between contradictions.
