Arts and Culture Movement in PortSudan
5, Oct, 2023
Join us for an engaging discussion session about art and culture in the city of Port Sudan. This vibrant city has made significant contributions to the social and cultural landscape of Sudan. It has been a hub of literary and artistic activities, producing many notable figures in Sudanese arts and literature.
In this session, we aim to provide a general framework for visual arts and artistic schools in Port Sudan. We will explore their themes and concepts, attempting to answer the question of the city’s artistic identity. By examining the artistic practices of local artists, focusing on the works of Mustafa Hussein Salem and Abu Al-Hasan Madani, we attempt to shed light not only on their artistic experiences but also on their historical significance.
Through this discussion, we hope to bridge the gap between the current generation and past artistic experiences, creating a shared artistic platform.
In an evening held at Kholal Gallery, The Muse’s monthly dialogue featured the visual artist Faisal Taj Al-Sir, discussing artistic trends in the city of Port Sudan, with a focus on Mustafa Salem and Abu Al-Hasan Madani.
Hassan Al-Nasser initiated the discussion, exploring the relationship between art and the city as a social factor, and the possibility of studying visual art within the social sciences.
Faisal analyzed Abu Al-Hasan Madani’s artistic works, emphasizing art as a fundamental aspect of Madani’s creations. He then shifted to Mustafa Hussein, an artist with an academic background, discussing his view of art through his teaching experience and comparing it to Abu Al-Hasan’s artistic approach.
The dialogue also touched upon the experiences of art students at the Red Sea University in visual and fine arts, as well as the importance of art institutions.
Location: Kholal Gallery – Portsudan, Thursday, October 5th – 5:30 PM. Presented by Faisal Taj Al-Sir, and facilitated by Hassan Al-Nasser
