مجلة زا ميوز الإصدار الثاني

The Muse Magazine Issue 02 The second issue of The Muse magazine is presented to you with a firm stance, not on the archives of the state but on our collective memory and social archives. We see this humble endeavour in itself as an archival practice, prioritising spaces of memory as well as collective, creative, and non-traditional archives. With this approach, we invite readers to engage with the archive as a social and creative production practice and a collective approach rather than as a final, unquestionable material.

حديث رسامو الخرطوم

Khartoum Artists Talk Written by Mozaffar Ramadan, The practice of art-making during mass uprisings has brought artistic practices closer to the people, solidifying their role as a necessary need tied to people’s lives and their envisioned utopian future. Consequently, people’s perception of art and artists improved significantly, after being undermined for three decades by systematic Islamist propaganda under the ousted regime. On the other hand, this period also helped artists reshape their attitudes and ideas about the concept of creative production itself. By experimenting with new techniques they had not previously explored, and by considering the ethical dimensions of artistic production from a perspective of social responsibility, they evolved their practices. These interviews document the thoughts of Khartoum’s artists during a pivotal period in the transformation of the Sudanese art movement.

ضفة آفلة: إعادة انتاج الخرطوم بصريا

Decaying Bank: Reproducing Khartoum Visually is the result of a residency project that attempted to engage with Khartoum from an artistic approach. During this residency, there were many artistic and research interventions on the history of Khartoum and its social space, with a cross-disciplinary methodology, in which the points from which we saw the city intertwined. Throughout this book you will find a group of visual works that were created by the hands of 6 Sudanese visual artists, along with critical interventions to under- stand the city and reproduce it visually.

Colonial Spectrum

Colonial Spectrum Written by Hassan Alnasir, Colonial Specter is a narrative about the city of Khartoum, where the author attempts to excavate the city’s map in a style that blends autobiography with the city and social concepts. The author seeks to present a unique composition of the text, merging literary and social elements. The work is divided into two chapters: the first, titled Probing Kitchener, delves into the history of Khartoum, while the second explores Khartoum’s roads and their general structure.
