In September 2022, The Muse multi studios opened its first space in Khartoum with its contemporary art gallery “Muse Gallery”, establishing itself as one of Sudan’s leading art spaces. Muse Gallery is an independent art space in Khartoum dedicated to contemporary artistic practice, research, and cultural exchange. Established as part of the broader The Muse multi studios institution, the gallery functions as a platform for artists, curators, and researchers to experiment with new forms of artistic production while engaging critically with Sudan’s cultural and historical contexts.
Vision and Mission
Muse Gallery was founded with the intention of creating an accessible and dynamic environment for contemporary art in Sudan. The gallery supports artists working across disciplines—including visual art, photography, installation, performance, and moving image—while encouraging experimental practices and critical dialogue. Through exhibitions, public programs, and collaborative projects, the space seeks to nurture emerging and established artists and connect local artistic production with wider regional and international networks.
Program and Activities
The gallery hosts a rotating program of exhibitions, research presentations, and public events. Its programming often brings together artists, writers, historians, and cultural practitioners to explore themes related to memory, identity, archives, and the social role of art. In addition to exhibitions, Muse Gallery organizes:
- Artist talks and panel discussions
- Workshops and educational programs for young artists and students
- Curatorial and research projects that engage with Sudanese art history
- Collaborative initiatives and residencies with international partners
These activities position the gallery not only as an exhibition venue but also as a site for knowledge production and cultural dialogue.
The space is currently temporarily closed due to the tragic war events that occurred in Khartoum and Sudan in April 2023.
