The Muse Magazine issue 02

The Muse published the first issue of its magazine in September 2023 and continues its endeavours to publish the second issue in the current year, 2024. The common theme of this issue will be “Documentation and Archiving,” as the issue will focus on several topics, the most important of which are:
  1. THE NECESSITY OF ARCHIVING WORKS OF ART AND HOW TO PRESERVE CULTURAL HERITAGE FROM DISAPPEARING
  2. CURRENT ARCHIVING CONVERTERS IN (VISUAL ARTS, MUSIC, CINEMA, HISTORICAL FILES,…)
  3. THE ROLE OF ARTISTS IN ARCHIVING THEIR WORKS, AND HOW THE ARTIST CAN PRESERVE HIS WORKS IN LIGHT OF WAR AND DISPLACEMENT
  4. INTERVIEWS WITH LEADING FIGURES IN THE FIELD OF ARCHIVING

The Muse believes that this theme not only reflects the reality created by the current war but also the feeling of the city and the place to which the Sudanese belonged, accompanied by presenting the idea of wars and what was produced and discussed in the Sudanese artistic community, and the topics accompanying it such as immigration and the idea of asylum by integrating The concept of homeland, such as belonging and identity, and the necessity of preserving the common Sudanese cultural heritage that creates and shapes this identity. Based on these ideas, the organisation works to research and delve into the concept of movement and redefinition through the destinations that artists went to, in addition to adapting to reality and longing for a place.

The Muse believes that the responsibility of documentation and archiving is a collective responsibility that falls on all Sudanese citizens and can only succeed if driven by significant public support. We hope this issue will be the beginning of future efforts and a continuation of ongoing efforts in this context.
